Steel Panther kicked off their 15th Anniversary tour in Lincoln, Nebraska at the Bourbon Theatre. This was not my first rodeo with the Steel Panther guys, having covered them a few other times over the past 4-5 years. And one thing about these guys is that they are very serious about having fun. A perfect remedy for mid-week doldrums with nothing but depressing news on the television.
Going to a Steel Panther show is a great way to forget about the world’s problems and just go have some good clean fun, er…I mean not so clean fun. Their show may not be for the faint of heart, but if you like it loud, funny, and a little raunchy- they you have come to the right place.
Steel Panther has remained largely intact throughout their 15 years together. The only exception is replacing a bass player who left and was replaced by Spyder. Michael Starr, Satchel, and Stix Zadina have all been mainstays throughout. They played a lot of the Steel Panther classics to kick off the anniversary tour, which had the crowd singing along the whole time. Songs like Glory Hole, Death to All but Metal, Community Property, Asian Hooker, and 17 Girls in a row. Which, is always a crowd favorite because they bring a lot of the women in the crowd up on stage to help them sing that one. Always fun to watch that all go down.
In the scheme of things 15 years is not a terribly long time. But for a touring band, it is an extremely long time. The fact that these guys have been going that long and show no signs of slowing down, shows that they are doing something right. Steel Panther don’t take themselves too seriously, but are serious when it comes to putting on a rock and roll show. They are not for everyone, but if you need a good night out to rock and roll and laugh a lot, then they may be just what the doctor ordered.
